If you are familiar with VPNs, chances are you have heard of NordVPN, undisputedly one of the leading VPN providers today. However, VPNs are also pretty individualistic. In other words, VPNs may not be for everyone, and the number further drops with specific, big-name carriers like NordVPN. Are you are one of those disappointed by the NordVPN service, and want to switch providers? Then you are in luck, as we will discuss how to get a refund from NordVPN. Before we get further, remember this. To get their money back from NordVPN, one shall initiate the request within the 30-day money-back guaranteed time limit, which starts the minute you subscribe to its services. There are also a few other key points one needs to heed in the NordVPN refund policy, which we will get to in this article.

Understand NordVPN refund policy
The NordVPN refund policy is relatively simple. Although, you do have to read the fine print to cope with any uncertainties. First, it clearly states that every customer is eligible for a refund under the 30-day money-back guarantee. This guarantee makes it very simple to get a refund. However, there are certain aspects of the fine print that a user has to heed. Other than that, there are a few conditions under which a user may not be eligible for a refund. We have detailed the NordVPN refund policy below.
- One is eligible for a refund under the 30-day money-back guarantee.
- There will be no refunds after the 30-day time period.
- You can’t get a refund if you bought your subscription via a reseller. Examples: Amazon, BestBuy, StackSocial, etc.
- Tip. Contact the reseller. This may still be possible depending on their refund policy.
- Any subscription made via the Apple app store/iTunes is not eligible for a refund as per Apple’s refund policy.
- You can still contact Apple for a refund. If Apple refers you back to NordVPN, explain that the NordVPN policy refuses refund from their end.
- Prepaid and gift cards are not subject to the refund policy.
- For payments made via a cryptocurrency, the refund will be under US Dollars in the same crypto at the current exchange rate.
- Any user can only get two refunds. Any subscription after that won’t be subject to a refund.
- For recurring subscriptions, there will be no refunds if you cancel after the renewal of services.
Get a refund for NordVPN
One thing to love about NordVPN is its straightforward refund policy. It is far simple to get a refund from Nord than most people suspect. Amidst 24×7 customer support with live chat and a responsive email, it usually takes 5 minutes to cancel your subscription and process a refund request. After that, the money will reflect in your account within 1 to 10 business days.
- Users can use both the live chat function or a simple email to initiate the refund request.
- Cancellation can happen via the app. You can also initiate cancellation by the website, your Google or Apple Store, or contacting customer care via email or live chat.
The process to get a refund from NordVPN is divided into two: Cancellation & refund. Follow the steps below to initiate the cancellation of NordVPN.
1. Cancel NordVPN services
There are several ways to cancel your NordVPN subscription, but we will not get into it. For this guide, I will use the NordVPN website to initiate cancellation and then request for refund. However, you have to note that any subscription purchased by the Google or Apple store needs cancellation via their respective stores. You can contact NordVPN customer support for further help on this topic as they have guides available.
Now let us explore the steps needed for cancellation:
- Visit the NordVPN official website and log in using your credentials.
- After a successful login, go to the Dashboard tab.
- Find the Change plan tab on the right under “My services”.
- Click on the three-dots icon next to it.
- From the dropdown menu, select Cancel automatic payments.
- Now the website will prompt a menu for confirmation.
- Click on Confirm cancellation.
- Now your automatic payments have stopped. All you need to do is to ask for a refund.
A user can directly use the Customer support page to initiate cancellation via live chat or email. They can also use Google and Apple stores for said cancellation.
2. Initiate refund request
You can generate a refund request via live chat and email. However, we find the live chat to be much faster.
Refund via Live chat
You have two options here. One is to continue with the cancellation process. The other is to visit the Customer Support page of NordVPN. Proceed like this:
- Click on the chat icon with the question mark on the bottom right of the website.
- Select either live chat or email. For this guide, we’ll select the live chat.
- A live chat window opens on the right.
- Now type refund in the dialogue box, and you will get the suggestion of “refund your payment.”
- Click on it, and a questionnaire will pop up.
- Fill it with relevant details: your email ID (e-mail address) associated with NordVPN and the reason you contacted them.
- Once connected to the Customer Care representative, the chat window will open on the right-hand side.
- Tell the representative about your request.
- Surprisingly, they won’t pester you or try to decline your request.
- Note. Their behavior is in line with their “no questions asked” refund policy. However, they may try to retain you as a customer by sweeting the deal. For example, they might offer a discount code.
- The refund request will take almost 5-10 minutes to initiate.
- Your money will appear in your bank account within 1-10 business days.
Refund via Email
Almost the same process but instead of the live chat, select the email option. After filling in the necessary details in the email questionnaire that pops up, describe your issue. In this case, ask for a refund. Just remember to keep the email short and simple. Use “Refund for subscription” as the subject and keep the content concise. It usually takes 2 or 3 days for a refund request via email to be initiated. After request generation, it will take another 10 days or so before you get your money back from NordVPN.
From Google and Apple
Those who purchased a subscription from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store can’t get a refund from NordVPN per their policy. This doesn’t mean that you will lose money. Simply, a subscription purchased via these platforms is subject to their respective refund policies. A user has the right to cancel a subscription at any time, and for the corresponding refund, they can contact Google or Apple within 48 hours. It then generally takes 1-4 business days for Google and 1-5 business days for Apple to process the refund request.
