1. Uninstall Astrill VPN on Windows
Windows is a household name with over hundreds of millions of trusted users. Hence, numerous vendors have exclusive clients for Windows. Thus, there is a need for a detailed guide to explain how to approach uninstallation on the platform. Although the OS remains user-friendly to date, there are several methods to deleting a program. Take Astrill VPN, for example. While users can always use a third-party app for such deeds, enthusiasts can also do so manually. Hence, we have included two methods to uninstall Astrill VPN from the platform.
Furthermore, the uninstallation also requires users to delete the subsequent TAP adapters and any leftover files. Otherwise, chances are that other VPNs might not work on the device. TAP adapters are network drivers that facilitate tunneling on a VPN. Hence, removing them is a must. Also, note that such deletion must be manual. While users can uninstall TAP adapters using the same third-party uninstaller, many prefer the in-built Windows Installation Wizard for the task.
Removing Astrill VPN via third-party software
The first method uses a third-party application for the installation process. There are many uninstallers available for Windows, paid and free ones. All the user has to do is browse the web and download suitable software.
Note — We are using Total Uninstaller for our demonstration. However, the reader is free to use other suitable apps.
Although we can remove the software via the third-party uninstaller, we should ensure that the VPN has ceased operations and has been safely terminated before initiating the removal process. Here’s how:
- If your VPN is active, click the Power On icon to disconnect it. Then exit the app.
- If not, you can use the system tray by right-clicking on the VPN icon and selecting Disconnect, then Exit.

- Press Ctrl + Alt + Del buttons on the keyboard; simultaneously to run the Manager.
- Now select Astrill VPN from the list of Running Apps.
- Click on End Task. Users are now free to pursue uninstallation.
